Culture, is simple describe as the way of life of a person or entire group of people, the food, greetings, dressing, festivals, language, family, and beliefs – they’re all threads in the fabric of culture.


  1. Food Culture 🍜: 😂food brings people together, tells stories, and sparks memories. Some cultures and their unique meals includes;

– Yoruba : Amala and ewedo
– Hausa: Tuwo chinkafa (rice pudding) let’s not forget our kilishi (dried meat🍖 stake)
– Igbo: Abacha (cassava salad) 🥗, usually leafy soup, Okpa
– Efik: Afang Soup, ekpe (fish stew) 🐟
– Kanuri: Dambu (steamed rice balls) 🍚, bishara (meat stew) 🍲
– Tiv: Ichicha (vegetable stew) 🥗
– Urhobo: Owho soup and starch
– Bini/ Esan: egusi and pounded yam, Garden egg stew
– Nupe*: Bafra (rice and bean dish) 🍚, kura (fried dough) 🍰
– Idoma: Ose (okra soup) 🍲, pounded yam
And so on and so forth


2. Greetings & Respect 🙏: From bows to handshakes for cultures like Hausas, Tivs, Yoruba, etc, kneeling for cultures like the nigeria deltans, the igbos it’s all about showin’ love and respect.


3. Dressing Style 👗: yorubas clothes are usually Abaya, Asoke, buba.

  • Hausa clothes, kafta
  • igbo dressing are association with red and black cap, niger Delta cultures are usually dresses with beads and wrappers, speak volumes about identity and heritage.

  1. Festivals & Celebrations 🎉: Carnival vibes – it’s all about good times and traditions.
  • Yoruba festival is Osun-Osogbo Festival, Wan go festival etc.
  • Durbar Festival is associated with the Arewa’s(northern Nigerians)
  • Mmanwu Festival, New yam festival, Igu aro festival and so on are celebrated usually by some south east and niger Delta cultures.
  • The Calabar carnival by the Erik culture and very popular.

5. Language & Communication* 🗣️: 500+ languages in Nigeria alone! To mention few are urhobos, isoko, bini from bendel state, Yoruba, Hausa, tiv, Erik, igbo, ogoni and ikerre from port harcourt, pidgin language it’s general language in Nigeria. Etc😮 Language shapes thoughts, feelings, and connections.


6. – Family & Lifestyle 👨‍👩‍👧: Family dynamics, respect for elders – it’s all about balance and values.

Beliefs & Traditions ⛪: Guiding principles, values, and practices – it’s the backbone of culture.
